Prescott Valley homes: newer stock, different panel problems
About 55 percent of Prescott Valley homes were built in 2000 or later, and 44 percent went up between 1970 and 1999. The town incorporated in 1978, so the 1965 to mid-1970s aluminum wiring window barely touches it. Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels do turn up, mostly in earlier subdivisions such as The Viewpoint, an original large development north of town off AZ-89 with more than 1,200 homes. The bigger pattern is capacity. StoneRidge, with about 1,100 homes in the southwest corner of town, Granville on both sides of Glassford Hill Road, Pronghorn Ranch and the Villages at Lynx Creek were built with panels sized for the appliances of their day. Add a Level 2 EV charger or a hot tub circuit and a 100 amp panel is out of room. Most of the Prescott Valley work we quote is a 200 amp upgrade, or a subpanel feeding a garage or an addition.

Elevation, lightning and PSPS areas in Prescott Valley
Prescott Valley sits at 5,063 feet, a little lower than Prescott, with the same monsoon. From June 15 to September 30 afternoon storms bring most of the year's rain and a lot of lightning; Arizona sees roughly 6 million strikes a year, mostly in those months. Electrical permits in Prescott Valley come from Town of Prescott Valley Development Services at 7501 E Skoog Blvd. They cover new, replacement and resized work, so every panel swap and service upgrade in town gets one, and we pull it. Inspections can be requested up to 5 days ahead, with a 6:30 a.m. cutoff for same-day requests, so we schedule the inspection when we schedule the job and plan any APS reconnect around it. A panel replacement is inspected with the cover off before we close it up and turn the house back on. Prescott Valley is about 8 miles east of Prescott on AZ-69, roughly 24 minutes center to center, the closest of the towns we serve outside Prescott itself. Sometimes. We run a load calculation on the existing service first. A 200 amp panel with open slots usually takes a 40 or 50 amp charger circuit outright. A full 100 amp panel may need a load-managed charger or a 200 amp upgrade instead. We tell you which after seeing photos of your panel and meter.
Do you install subpanels for garages and additions in Prescott Valley?
